Ways You Can Help Your Kids with Teething Pain

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Tiny Teeth Pediatric Dentistry
Ways You Can Help Your Kids with Teething PainThe teething process varies from one baby to another. Most babies often begin teething after six months. Usually, the first teeth to appear are bottom front teeth, followed by two top front teeth. The teething process in babies comes with great discomfort. Most babies will experience teething pain that makes them cry most of the time. As a parent, this is an area of concern, and you will be obliged to do something about it. Luckily, there are several ways you can help your kid deal with teething pain. Some of them include rubbing their gums, keeping the teething area cool, and using relieving medications.

Rubbing Their Gums

You can help relieve teething pain by rubbing your baby's gums. To do so, use a wet gauze or a clean finger. The soft pressure exerted on their gums helps ease the teething discomfort. Keep in mind that using clean gauze is very important. Make sure that these items are clean before using them on your baby because they can cause infections.

Keeping the Teething Area Cool

Keeping the teething area cool will also help relieve pain. You can use a chilled teething ring or a cold spoon to soothe your baby's gums. Exposing the painful area to cold temperatures will significantly reduce its intensity. As a result, your baby will be calm and much more comfortable. However, keep in mind that these items can cause cavities if not cleaned. You are also warned against dipping them in sugar because it will lead to bacteria build-up. This could cause other oral conditions like gum disease or gingivitis.

Use Relieving Medications

If your baby is undergoing severe teething pain, you should consider giving them infants' pain medications. However, you should avoid using unauthorized OTC medications that could worsen the situation. Some of these medications can also cause seizures and breathing difficulties for your baby. Schedule an appointment with our professionals to remedy teething pains.
