Dental Hygiene Tips: Caring for Your Toddlers Teeth

Dental Hygiene Tips: Caring for Your Toddlers TeethGetting an early start on your child's dental care can make a significant difference in their oral health and reduce the chances of tooth decay. Parents should take certain measures to maintain the health and beautiful smile of their children.

Dr. Healy and Dr. Martin at Tiny Teeth Pediatric Dentistry recommend the following tips to ensure the health of your toddler's teeth:

Getting Regular Checkups

Children should start seeing the pediatrician right from their first birthday. Starting preventive care early can prevent you and your child from going through extensive dental procedures and save you money in the longer run. We conduct a thorough examination of your child's teeth to spot potential issues and prevent them from getting worse.

Teaching Good Oral Hygiene Habits

Parents must help their children the importance of maintaining regular oral hygiene. You must teach them the right way to brush and floss their teeth and gums. Show them the movements so they can follow your steps. Make sure they brush and floss twice a day.

Cutting Back on Juices

While juice might seem to be a healthy choice for children, an excessive amount can result in tooth decay. Limit the juice intake to a maximum of 4 ounces of fresh fruit juice. Avoid giving them sugary foods and drinks, particularly at night time.

Avoiding Sippy Cups

Sippy cups are an ideal way to transition your children to glass from a bottle. However, avoid letting them drink from a Sippy come throughout the day as it can increase the chances of tooth decay if the drinks are sugary.

Caring for your toddler's teeth from an early stage can help maintain good oral health that will prevent the chances of plaque buildup and cavities. You can call us at (316) 202-9629 today to book your toddler's appointment or to learn about more ways to enhance your child's oral care.
