While you are thinking about your child's bone and muscle development, you may want to also think about their dental health as well. Here are some tips for which fruits and veggies are perfect for your child's dental health.

Good Fruits and Veggies

You have a right to be worried. Tooth decay is the most prevalent childhood disease and affects more than 80% of all children in the U.S. However, unlike some childhood diseases, tooth decay is preventable.

First, if you can get your kids to eat raw veggies, such as celery, broccoli, and carrots, you are both encouraging healthy gums and saliva production to rid your child's mouth of bacteria that causes tooth decay. Both carrots and green veggies are also rich in nutrients and vitamins, such as iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C, which promote great tooth and gum health. Green veggies are also rich in calcium and iron, which promote tooth growth and strength. Think about offering your kids veggies with hummus for a healthy and filling snack.

While you're thinking about vitamin C, you can also give your kids fresh apples for a fun dose of minerals and vitamins. You can pair apples with peanut butter or other nut butter for a great snack.

What About Berries?

Many children love berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. If your kids love berries, be sure and offer them fresh berries because they have compounds that prevent disease and decay. Berries are great alone or with cream cheese for a delicious treat. You can also include both fruits and veggies in smoothies for breakfast or snacks for your kids as well- and because it's a smoothie, your kids won't know what's in it. By giving your kids healthy options, you are giving them a great start on life and years of healthy teeth and gums.
