Is fluoride good for my child?

Posted on 4/24/2023 by Tiny Teeth Pediatric Dentistry
Is fluoride good for my child?Fluoride can help in the prevention of tooth decay and make your teeth and that of your child stronger. Fluoride stops cavities from forming. When bacteria from the mouth combine with sugars there is the formation of an acid that harms the outer layer called the enamel. Fluoride is important for it assists in rebuilding the enamel. Children should drink plenty of water that has fluoride, they should also use toothpaste that has fluoride

Fluoride toothpaste

Fluoride is safe for children since it works well in the prevention of tooth decay. Children should use toothpaste that has fluoride twice a day since the appearance of the first tooth. The first stages want a smear size of toothpaste with fluoride, after three years use pea-sized toothpaste for the child. When the child is below three years you can use a drop of fluoride to the mouth since they might not fully utilize the brushing toothpaste. This is because at that age the child might be stubborn and will not want to brush the teeth.

Fluorosis

Fluorosis is faint and when on teeth only a dental hygienist is likely to notice it. When mild it is not painful and doesn't affect the functioning of the teeth. In children using fluoridated water to mix baby formula can cause fluorosis. The dentist will determine if the amount of fluoride in the water that you mix with fluoride does not cause fluorosis to the child. Fluorosis does come when the child has got adult teeth. Make sure that for young children fluoride is present in toothpaste.

Visit our dentist to educate you more on how fluoride works and if it is important to your child. The dentist will teach you more on how to fluoridate your water if it is not from the water supply.
